FAQ – Private Lessons

Private lessons are generally 30 minutes or 1 hour.

In some cases, I have students that like to do 2 hours, especially if they are studying or practicing for an exam, or if they have an upcoming performance. I also have a student that has a 4 hour lesson every week where we work on music composition and transposing his music. Lesson length is individual to the student and what they want to achieve.
Please note that in general, 30 min lessons are at the teacher's location. In some circumstances, it may be possible to have it in your home - please check with us on the date and time.
Many students are at school or work a full time job during the day. Others have variable hours and are on a roster or do shift work. This is life and that is fine.
Let me know what days and timeslots you are available (morning / afternoon / evening), and we will find a time slot to reserve for you each week. Our hours are from 7am to 11pm - 7 days a week.
If you would like to book Peter Teodorescu specifically for at home lessons, lessons must be 1 hour long, and weekly. Unfortunately he no longer has the bandwidth to travel to student locations, and we can no longer allocate 30 min slots at your home due to the number of students he teaches each week, and especially because of his larger project commitments.
No. You may only need a few lessons to correct a voice technique if you are an experienced singer, or you may want to have a session with me to work out the best songs for your vocal range. In this case, we only book your lessons in advance for what is needed. Sessions will still need to be booked in advance to make sure you have your time slot reserved.
We can understand that this would be convenient for you, however we can’t maintain an efficient and productive schedule and allocate you the best teacher if lessons can’t be planned for and sessions reserved in advance.
All lessons must be booked and paid for in advance.
Yes - please refer to the different fees for fortnightly lessons. These have higher fees - we still have to do all the same amount of preparation work - it is just that your weekly lessons is 30 minutes. Please see the Tuition Fees and Payments page for the list of fees and what the fee includes.
Piano lessons are in my studio, or at your home. If you would like to learn to play the piano, it is a MUST that you buy a piano (Gumtree have lots), or buy an electric keyboard that has 88 keys. You can get a new 88 keys keyboard for $500, or a used one for even less on EBAY or Gumtree. There are many people that advertise their piano for free if you pick it up. If you don’t have a piano – borrow, hire, or buy one.
Please avoid any schools or teachers that will take your money and want to teach you piano lessons if you do not have a piano at home.
Yes. It doesn't have to be brand new. You can buy a second hand instrument on gumtree or ebay, or Facebook Marketplace. You must have an instrument to play at home for practice.
If you are learning a piano, you can get an 88 key digital keyboard pre-owned for a fraction of the price. It is a great starting point.
I teach both trained musicians and/or singers, or complete beginners. If you have performed in the past but you are a bit rusty, this is fine as well.
I have students ranging from 5 years old (piano) to 70 years old (singing). There is no age limit to singing or learning the piano.
Lessons are in person. Nothing replaces one to one in person tuition. Nothing. Skype is great for check-ins (for example if the person travels and is preparing or a performance), or for consultations.
